When
Izzy, the half-witch ‘wife’ of the Hightower Clan’s new matriarch,
Tamara, turns her back on their relationship, Tamara is driven to acts
of desperation. Tamara desperately wants Izzy back, but it’s going to
take quite a bit to get her. Not only does she want Izzy as her sub,
she wants--needs--Izzy’s heart and soul, as well.
Wow!
Out of all the Hightower books, Lustful Torment is, by far, my
favorite. Why? Probably because it’s told through Tamara’s POV. I love
reading her, knowing her intimate thoughts and just how much she loves
Izzy, despite the harsh exterior she holds like a cloak around herself.
There
are many scenes that show a new side of Tamara--a softer side, if you
can believe it. But the loves scenes… damn. The best lesbian scenes
I’ve read! If you’ve enjoyed the Hightower books, do not miss this one!

Lustful Torment:
I have to say Tamara was awesome and was just put on my keeper shelf
for
heroines/heroes
of the heart. She is amazing. The way she said things at
times showed
me a side of her I never saw before. That's going to hurt and
few other
phrases, including the opening scene in the tree, are still
impressed on
my mind. The way she handled Izzy in the midst of her temper
tantrum as
well as how she walked away when Izzy tormented her and left that
room was
beyond impressive. And the scene with the kids made Tamara a
vampire that
could steal my heart. :)

Cheating
Death by Annie Alvarez
is the second book in her Hightower series. Izzy
is half-witch and loves vampire Tamara Hightower, the East Coast
Vampire Enforcer. One night Tamara’s sister, Kaley, comes and attacks
Izzy. Tamara does not want to lose Izzy so she turns her into a
vampire. Izzy does not want to be a vampire. Tamara does what she must
to save Izzy. When Izzy violates vampire law Tamara proposes they go
through a union ceremony. What powers does a union ceremony give Izzy?
Why does Tamara want a union with Izzy?
I liked Cheating
Death but I felt
like I only had half a story since I have not yet read the first book
in the series. This is not a stand-alone. I should have read For
the Love of Blood first. I had
more questions than I could find answers in this book. I want to know
why Izzy does not want to be a vampire and why Tamara wants her so
much. I will need to read the first book to find out.
I enjoyed the
first person point of view. I could identify with Izzy and her anger.
She’s now something she does not want to be. What will happen with the
witch part of her? It will be interesting to see what happens because
of the union between Izzy and Tamara. How will it change them? Will it
make them more powerful? Will it take the best of the vampire and the
best of the witch and make a new entity? I definitely have to read the
next book to find out.
Annie Alvarez wrote a story
that kept me interested. This is a lesbian romance and she can write
sex. Hot! I just wish I had the history of these characters and I can
fix that by reading For the Love of Blood. I intend to
read the next book, Dying to Live, in the
Hightower series.

Izzy Denzier
happened to be in Florida walking on the beach when she was attacked by
a rogue vampire. Luckily, she was saved in time before she was bit or
drained of any blood.
Tamara Hightower
is a vampire and enforcer of the East Coast and Master of the city. She
carries certain responsibilities, and Izzy is one of them. She and Izzy
share a passionate relationship.
Izzy is
half-witch, whose powers are not working as well as expected. She is
head over heels in love with Tamara. Celeste is a vixen, from you know
where, and gets on Izzy’s last nerve. She wants to be part of Tamara’s
life, but Izzy wishes her to stay away. Things become even more
complicated when Kaley, Tamara’s sister, does something inexcusable.
Between Celeste and Kaley, living in the Hightower family things can
become a bit foolproof. With Celeste constantly wishing to interfere,
and Kaly’s actions causing chaos, there is only one thing left for
Tamara to do, but it could change Izzy and their live eternally.
There is a deep
love shared between Izzy and Tamara that transcends with each turn of
the page in Cheating Death. Annie Alvarez has created two magical women
whose emotions are so genuine; the reader becomes caught up in the
action and cannot let go. Tamara is a strong character, the gung-ho one
to watch over Izzy with every inch of her life, whereas the reader
finds Izzy tender and often needing someone to hold to. Still, I admire
how great their traits are; they each have fears and problems, and face
them head-on. Watch out, because this book is scalding hot, and one
will definitely get burnt, but it is a burn that feels good from the
first page to the last.

Izzy and Tamara are settling in together, their love passionate as
always. But as things usually are with the Hightowers, nothing is
guaranteed or simple. When Tamara’s sister Kaley does something
unforgivable, it leaves Tamara with a precarious decision to make – one
that will change Izzy, and their lives together, forever.
Now Izzy’s dealing with much more than a vampire girlfriend, and her
new life is threatening everything – from the fragile status of their
relationship, to Izzy’s very sanity. They have to find a solution and
fast, or the fallout will be disastrous.
Cheating Death is book two in the Hightower
series and a direct sequel to For the Love of Blood.
This one had me from the get-go and the action rarely let up. The
characters (not just Izzy and Tamara) were very well-written and
fleshed out, and the love scenes were incredibly hot.
The plot revolves around Izzy’s new… life and, as such, you’re left
holding on for dear life as she spirals out of control. There were
several times when I wondered how in the world she’d ever get out of
the trouble she managed to find herself in, but that was part of the
appeal. Cheating Death has
a lot of depth and I greatly enjoyed this installment. Given how it
ended, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book.
VampireBooks.Ca Review of Annie Alvarez's Book: "For The Love of Blood"
3 out of 5 bats
This
was my first female lesbian book that I have read. I enjoyed this book,
but wished that there would have been more background detail put into
Izzy's life. I also was disappointed that the book ended too soon. I
was just starting to get into the book, and then it ended right when
the action was just starting to pick up. What I did like
about this book, was the sensual loving romance between Izzy a half
witch and Tamara a vampire. I loved how Izzy was able to break through
Tamara's hardened heart and have her open up to her. There also was
some funny humor in this book that had me laughing during parts. I do look forward to reading the sequel to this book, where I hope I learn more about Izzy and Tamara.

FOR
THE LOVE OF BLOOD by Annie Alvarez is an interesting
beginning of what appears to be a longer story. An F/F story that was a
quick read. Izzy is a young woman who has had to deal with adversity.
The death of her parents and the shuffling through foster homes due to
mysterious power that seems out of control. Finally taken in by the
Katz’s, a couple, she finally found a home. Being witches themselves
they recognize that she is a half witch. They teach her about all kinds
of supernatural things.
Unbelieving of them, she strikes out on her own. Within a short time
she comes to understand that what they tried to teach her was all true.
She is attacked by a vampire and rescued by another vampire. The female
vampire, Kaley, takes her in, gives her a job feeding vampires and a
home. Izzy is content. However soon she is asked to feed Kaley’s
sister, Tamara. The woman is known as the peacekeeper. Not because she
negotiates with them but because she kills them. Izzy is afraid at
first but soon realizes there is something more to her. Thus begins
their relationship. As well as a hint of something more.
Filled with a world that is rich in various sects and peoples, I was a
little disappointed that there was not as much world building that went
on. It was only when I went back and re-read the beginning that I
understood that this was just the first in what I hope will be many
layers in her stories. The characters were interesting and I would like
the chance to get to know them better. I enjoyed this book and the
characters in it. I look forward to more from Annie Alvarez in this
series.

After being tossed around from foster home to foster home, Izzy is
finally making her way in the world as a half-witch. She finds work
in a center that provides donors to vampires – a place for both
vampires and humans to do so safely. While there, she finds herself
drawn to Tamara Hightower, sister of the center’s owner. Tamara is
feared by everyone, but Izzy can’t shake the lust she holds for the
dominating vamp.
Izzy quickly proves that she’s not the type who submits willingly and
in so doing, she catches Tamara’s eye as well. They settle into a love
affair, but things become complicated when Tamara’s mother, Lady
Hightower, summons them both. A war is brewing, and it seems it’s
closer than any of them think.
For the Love of Blood: The Hightower Introduction
is book one in what I assume will be a series. The love scenes between
Tamara and Izzy are hot and well done, especially the scene with the
pearls. Both women are strong and three-dimensional.
I look forward to the next book in this series.
